Backfit Physio

Who I am

Founder and owner of Backfit physio, Annabelle Di Salvo

I qualified in 1995 with a First Class,  BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University.   I won the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) board prize for coming second in my year.  I gained general rotational experience working in large hospitals in Glasgow before specialising in musculoskeletal outpatients.  I moved to Fife to continue my NHS career. I have worked my way through the ranks to work as an Advanced practice Orthopaedic practitioner.  I split my working week with private and NHS clinics and Pilates sessions.  I currently work along side NHS consultants in Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery to provide Orthopaedic spinal outpatient clinics.  I also provide physio services for private companies and  work from a clinic room at home to provide physio and Pilates sessions.

When i had my second child I trained in Physiotherapy led Pilates, including general matwork, Antenatal and Postnatal Pilates.  I appreciated at that time how vulnerable you can feel in pregnancy and the postnatal period and trained to be a FitBack and bumps instructor.  Since then, I  have vowed to help empower pregnant and postnatal women to have a happy and healthy pregnancy and postnatal period.  I enjoy helping clients manage painful conditions and rehabilitate back to their specific goals.

Extensive post graduate courses and self study keeps my current practice safe, effective and  evidence based in keeping with the requirements of my Professional bodies: HCPC and CSP

Testimonial

Annabelle made me feel completely at ease and relaxed, creating an atmosphere where you can be honest about anything you are experiencing (even the embarrassing bits!). I had been experiencing lower back pain and the suggested exercises and stretches have been just the thing to make me more comfortable. The information sessions at the start of each class make it very easy to understand the changes going on in your body and make you more aware of things you can (and can't do). Absolutely recommend going to these classes - you meet great people too!!

“I enjoyed all of the exercises and the support with ensuring my posture was correct. I also enjoyed the information provided at the beginning with the useful signposting ( e.g. squeezy app). I would recommend these classes".

“I first received help from Annabelle after having my first baby. At the time, I didn’t really know how to do pelvic floor exercises properly or that your abs can separate after childbirth! Annabelle took me through all of the exercises slowly and clearly so that I could fully understand how to do them properly. Her approach is lovely and she works with you until you are doing the exercises correctly. I really felt like my core ended up being stronger than before I had my baby. Exercise was a big part of my life before having my first baby and Annabelle allowed me to return to it safely. When I fell pregnant with my second baby, I started seeing Annabelle from the second trimester to work on Pilates moves that would strengthen my core and pelvic floor. These really helped to speed up my recovery post- baby and I was able to close the gap in my abs within a couple of months.

I have also received treatment for a sore shoulder from Annabelle which has been great. It felt so much better after just half an hour of treatment! I would highly recommend Annabelle to anyone who is pregnant or who has just had a baby. I have met so many mums who don’t realise you can work to fix pelvic floor issues so you don’t need to suffer. Having a baby impacts your body in so many ways that was I just didn’t realise so it’s definitely worth booking in to get an assessment! ”
